Floral. Melon. Strawberry. Blueberry. Winey acidity. Juicy.
The Yirgacheffe district of Ethiopia has become synonymous with outstanding coffees, fabled for their clarity, florals and fruit character. Following on from the Reko, one of our favourite coffees this year, we're excited to offer another Yirga- cheffe coffee, the Burtukaana Lot 10 (Gutiti).
While the Reko represented all that we love in a washed coffee, the Burtukaana is a fantastic example of natural processing methods. This coffee is sourced by Nordic Approach from a mill owned by Alemu Bukato in the Banko Gutiti area of Kochere. Collecting cherries from over 600 farmers who all grow coffees at altitu- des of around 2000 metres, this mill prides itself in its meticulous sorting me- thods. Extra care is taken to select perfectly ripe cherries which are dried for bet- ween 15 and 18 days, with the aim of producing a coffee that is exceptionally sweet while avoiding over-fermented flavours.
In industry terms, the Burtukaana is a "fruit-bomb". We selected this coffee becau- se it's incredibly sweet and has great clarity of flavour. Expect a cup full of melons, blueberry, and a hint of florals (true to its Yirgacheffe origin).
